Interscope Records approached Fourth Frame to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Dr. Dre's groundbreaking album "The Chronic" by creating visually stunning 3D animations of the album's lyrics. Working under a tight deadline of just 1 1/2 weeks, we were able to complete 16 unique animated loops that pay homage to the iconic album.
Drawing inspiration from the urban rap aesthetic that defined 90s Los Angeles, we infused our designs with motifs that evoke the gang and rap culture of the era. Our immersive sets transport viewers to the world in which Dr. Dre grew up, giving a glimpse of the environment that inspired his music.
Our approach to lyric integration was intentionally minimalistic, ensuring that viewers could easily follow along with the track. By keeping the focus on the animation and allowing the lyrics to seamlessly blend into the visual design, we created an immersive experience that enhances the music without distracting from it.
Our technical pipeline for this project included Blender Cycles, Cinema 4D, and Octane, with post-production completed in After Effects. To achieve the desired level of detail and visual impact, we developed custom textures that conveyed pertinent information about the music.
